Sharon Yamamoto's passion for art began in early childhood. Third generation Japanese-American, Sharon was born into an artistic family in Chicago, Illinois. From the age of twelve, she attended classes at The Art Institute of Chicago, which sparked a desire to understand history through art and instilled a love of painting, especially from live models. Her studies continued when she won a national art scholarship for Illinois Wesleyan University, from which she graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After studying the Pre-Raphaelites in London during her final year, she decided to make the city her home upon graduation.

The human figure continues to be a source of inspiration for Sharon. The people and animals populating her compositions spring from her imagination with symbolic rather than literal presence. The distinctive narrative style gently teases the viewer to personally interpret what is before them. Sharon's vision is constantly informed by her studies of metaphysics and the foundation of religious beliefs.

Sharon has achieved a wide international following. Outside of the UK and the USA, her work is in private and public collections in France, Holland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Puerto Rico and Japan. She continues to exhibit on both sides of the Atlantic and now lives in Henley-on-Thames.

About the art tiles
Brilliantly coloured glazes on ceramic tiles recreate the artwork of Sharon Yamamoto on a small but beautifully powerful format. A unique technology developed in the USA, involving leading edge digital photography, special tile coatings, heat and pressure and blur-proof transfer of special inks are all employed in the re-creation of Yamamoto’s work on ceramics. Yamamoto is the only artist in the UK offering her work in this unusual way. Easy to display either hanging on a wall, or as a free-standing ornamental piece, the artwork is both eye-catching and affordable. It may also be incorporated directly onto an interior or exterior surface. The polished finish allows the intensity of the colourful images, even under minimal light, to literally shine.
